Kristina Mainella to Lead Mixed-age Kindergarten

Kristina Mainella

Ashwood recently announced the hiring of Kristina Mainella to lead its mixed-age kindergarten next year. Kristina brings a wealth of experience to the job, including raising two boys, both of whom attended Ashwood, and serving on our board of trustees. Prior to this career changed, Kristina was a practicing small animal veterinarian for 18 years.

Kristina is currently enrolled in the early childhood Waldorf teacher training program at the Sunbridge Institute in Chestnut Ridge, New York, and is due to graduate in July, 2022. She is a 2001 graduate of The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and until her recent career change has been a small animal practitioner for almost 20 years.

Prior to enrolling in veterinary school, Kristina was a licensed massage therapist, and ran a private office for three years. Kristina still holds and maintains her DVM license and continues to do veterinary relief work locally.

Originally from Connecticut, Kristina has lived in Maine for 17 years and has two boys, Louis (16) and Vincent (14). Both of her children attended Ashwood from parent & child playgroup through sixth grade. Louis is currently a sophomore at Camden Hills Regional High School, while Vincent is in eighth grade at the Camden/Rockport Middle School. Kristina lives in Camden with her teenage boys, her partner, Michael, two dogs, and one Russian Redfoot tortoise named Poohbear.
