“First Grade Readiness” and “Reading in Grades 1-5”

How can parents tell when their kindergartener is ready for first grade? How and when is reading taught in a Waldorf school? On Wednesday, February 10, Ashwood Waldorf School is offering parents two opportunities to explore these questions.

At 5:00 p.m., teacher Robert Kaczor will present an introduction to first grade in a Waldorf school. Early-childhood faculty Marianne Bockli and Beth Lunt will be present to enrich the discussion with insights into markers of first-grade readiness.

At 5:45, there will be time for refreshments and conversation in the community room; then, at 6:00 p.m., Robert, joined by grade 3-4 teacher, Jeremy Clough, will present “Reading in the Waldorf School, Grades 1-5, ” a survey of the literacy curriculum in the early grades.

The meeting will end at 6:45; at that time, school director Jody Spanglet and outreach and enrollment coordinator Judith Soleil will welcome further questions and discussion.

Free, and open to the public.
