Jeremy Clough Named Ashwood School Director, Effective July 1 , 2020

It is with great pleasure that we announce the hiring of Jeremy Clough as Ashwood’s school director, effective July 1, 2020.

On the same day, Jody Spanglet, Ashwood’s long-serving school director, will become the school’s director of finance*, while our business office manager, Betty Wyman, will step down from her current role to explore other career opportunities.

The faculty and board of trustees fully endorse these changes to our school’s leadership and administrative structure and are ready to support our colleagues in their new roles. At this time of change, our hearts are full of gratitude to Jody who has cared for the well being of our school for 14 years with intelligence, grace, and unstinting love.

Jeremy was interviewed by an ad hoc hiring committee (listed below) who recommended his candidacy to the faculty. After a lengthy interview with his colleagues, Jeremy was given their unanimous and enthusiastic endorsement.

Jeremy has a B.A. in psychology from Northern Arizona University. After completing an M.Ed. (Waldorf Concentration) at Antioch New England, Jeremy joined Ashwood’s faculty in 2006, taking a class of fourth graders. He graduated this class in 2011 and went on, with Rob Kaczor, to form the first multi-age classes at Ashwood, shepherding the class of 2020/2021 from first grade through 7th/8th. His class graduates from Ashwood in June!

Through his colleagueship as well as his 10 years of service on Ashwood’s leadership council (LC), Jeremy has been a constant source of vision, inspiration, and wisdom for his colleagues and the school community. In the wider Waldorf world, Jeremy has been a teaching mentor and has led teacher training workshops. His expertise in multi-age classroom development continues to be sought after by other Waldorf schools.

During his many years of teaching at Ashwood, Jeremy has also kept active as a learner. He has done extensive coursework in Spacial Dynamics and has completed coursework through HEART: Healing Education and Remedial Training. His expertise in both of these areas has contributed enormously to the life of the school and to the well being of the students.
Jeremy’s wife, Rose Swan, is Ashwood’s movement teacher. Jeremy and Rose are the proud parents of Tillia Rose Clough.

Please join us in congratulating Jeremy, Jody, and Betty as they look forward to their new roles and as we enter a new and joyful chapter in the history of the school!

— Ad Hoc Hiring Committee Betsy Morrell, board president; Nancy Frohlich, board member; Robert Kaczor, class teacher; Laura Purdom, outreach/specialty teacher
