Fall Service Day: “It is the heart that does the giving.”

Last week, Ashwood students from grades 1-8 went out into the community to lend a helping hand during our Fall Service Day. We visited five local nonprofit organizations: Merryspring Nature Center, PAWS Animal Adoption Center, Erickson Field Preserve, Hospitality House, and Habitat for Humanity. At a community circle on Friday, the students shared their experiences with the rest of the school and explained what they had learned about the vital services these organizations provide for people—and animals—in need. Leaves were raked, vegetables were harvested, garden were put to bed, pet toys where made, trenches were dug, puppies were petted… but most importantly the students gave of their time, energy and love. As the Nigerian proverb goes: “It is the heart that does the giving; the fingers only let go.”
