On Thursday, April 8, grade school students will meet off campus for visits local sites. Parents, please note that drop off at 8:30 a.m. and pickup at 1:00 p.m. will be offsite. Class 1-3 will be visiting Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Aldermere Farm for a behind the scenes tour of the farm. They will also have a chance to explore the property’s nature trails, looking for migrating songbirds and spring wildflowers. Children should be dropped off and picked up at the farm, 20 Russell Avenue, Rockport. Pack a hearty lunch and snack, plenty of water, and clothing appropriate for hiking (comfortable and sturdy footwear) and the weather (layered clothing with a rain shield as necessary).Class 4-8 will be visiting Georges River Land Trust’s Ragged Mountain. The class will hike to the summit to have lunch and test their knowledge of local geography, observing rock formations and forest life along the way. On the way back down, the class will likely do some sliding, rolling and rollicking. They will also collect any litter they find as a service to the community and the planet. Students should be dropped off and picked up at the Snow Bowl, 20 Barnestown Road, Camden. Ashwood dads! Join Robert Kaczor this Wednesday, March 24, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for the first First Quarter Father’s Fire! Ashwood fathers, new and old, are invited to gather monthly on the Wednesday closest to the first quarter moon: March 24, April 21, May 19 and June 16. We will gather around the fire on Ashwood’s campus (location to be announced) and discuss Jack Petrash’s book Covering Home: Lesson on the Art of Fathering from the Game of Baseball, share stories, bring questions, or just connect, build community, and support each other. Bring a chair and other comforts (no alcohol, please). Robert will facilitate a conversation and reflections on Covering Home and other topics as they arise. The book is optional, but feel free to read it if you are interested. An R.S.V.P. is helpful, but not necessary. April 13, 14, 27 and 28 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Arrive early for pick up and help spruce up Ashwood’s grounds. Projects include heavy raking (gravel), moving hay bales, pruning, and general debris pick-up. Tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Gloves are recommended.
