Last Day of Early Childhood Classes and Bridge Crossing
Jun 7 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Morning Crafts @ Rosewood Early-Childhood Center, Ashwood Waldorf School
Aug 15 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Ashwood Waldorf School in Rockport is offering a creative playtime event at the school on Wednesday, August 15, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., for children ages 3-6 years old with an adult. Teachers Jen Corning and Morgan Wade will teach families how to make boats out of walnut shells, and lead circle and singing games. The event is free of charge; registration by Monday, August 13 is required.

Play has received a lot of attention in the media and in educational circles recently. Experts in child development emphasize that play is essential because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well being of children and youth.

Not only is play a vital element of early-childhood growth, it is a delightful one! Join us with your children on Wednesday, August 15!

Early-Childhood Welcome Tea
Aug 28 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Join us us at the Rosewood EC Center for tea! This event is for all early childhood families and offers an opportunity for families to meet and greet one another. Most importantly, it will allow the children to become familiar with their classroom before the first day of school.

All Hallows’ Eve @ Ashwood Waldorf School
Oct 26 @ 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

Join us for our annual, enchanted woodland walk! In quiet awe, we tread the magical path through the woods, lit by 100 twinkling jack-o-lanterns. What will we find along the path? Fairies, dragon-battling knights, Red Riding Hood, hearty woodcutters, shy rabbits, brave archers? Come look for your favorite fairy-tale characters in this delightful pre-Halloween treat for the very young (through 9 years). For the older children (aged 9–14), there will be a campfire and story. Come in costume! (No scary masks, please.)

Winter Spiral of Light
Dec 5 all-day

Children’s Winter Spiral

Winter is dark,
Yet each tiny spark
Brightens the way…

On Wednesday, December 5, during the school day, children in the grade school and early childhood classes will walk the Winter Spiral of Light, continuing a longtime tradition in Waldorf schools around the world. Early-childhood students will walk at 3:30 p.m. in the Buttercup Room, and parents are invited to attend. Parents who attend should arrive no later than 3:20. For your children’s safety, it’s important that they wear well-fitting shoes, have long hair tied back, and avoid flowing skirts or loose sleeves.
Saint Nicholas Day
Dec 6 @ 8:15 am

On this day, unseen, Saint Nicholas visits Ashwood, leaving surprises for the children. Each classroom celebrates this in-school event in a unique way.

Introduction to First Grade
Feb 13 @ 8:15 am – 10:30 am
‘Tis the season to begin welcoming six-year-old children—and their parents—into Ashwood’s next first grade and into our community. In that spirit, we extend our warmest welcome both to parents of Ashwood kindergartners as well as the parents of first-grade-ready children throughout the Midcoast, from Waldoboro to Montville and beyond to attend our Introduction to First Grade. The morning will begin with a visit to the current First Grade, where visitors will be able to see the students and their teacher in action. Following the classroom visit, School Director, Jody Spanglet will give a hands-on demonstration lesson. The morning will conclude with a Q&A session. So, bring your questions! Takes place at Ashwood Waldorf School, 180 Park Street, Rockport. Pre-registration required. Free event. All are welcome!
