Math Meets Art in Glass Geometry Course

P1030072EACH FALL THE Eight Grade class makes a weeklong visit to the Glass Geometry studios of Hans Schepker in New Hampshire where they study the world of mathematics through the lens of art.

Working under the guidance of this master artisan—as well as sharing meals with his family— the students begin their days with math class and spend long hours learning the finer points of glass work, as well as the concentration and precision it demands.

When they return to Ashwood, the students display their individual works and the class presents a gift to the school of a project it has collaboratively designed and created.
