Founded in 1986 and located in Rockport, Maine, Ashwood Waldorf School is an independent and accredited private school serving approximately 130 students from eighteen months to eighth grade. The largest independent school in midcoast Maine, Ashwood enrolls students from Damariscotta to Belfast and beyond.
One of the reasons my children are at Ashwood is that they learn Reverence -- and by this I mean they experience respect and deep appreciation for people and the natural world. By recognizing the inherent value of people, animals and earth, they build a foundation for positive, mindful living and for responsible leadership for the future. To me, Reverence is the antidote to the "Whatever" Culture of cynicism and hopelessness -- where nothing has value -- that underlies the destructive behavior and spiritual/emotional emptiness pervasive today.
–Jana Herbener, mother of a second grader and a sixth grader
