Mia positioning for the javelin Olympiad 2011.jpgEach May Waldorf schools from Maine and Canada gather together for the Pentathlon, a two day festival, in which the athletes compete in the five original Olympic events: javelin, discuss, wrestling, long jump, and sprinting. Ashwood movement teacher Jeremy Clough trains Ashwood’s Fifth Grade for this festival. These athletes train for the entire year, constantly striving to improve the beauty and distance of their throws, the grace and speed of their stride, and the form and power or their wrestling position. This year the festival takes place at our sister school, Merriconeag in Freeport, Maine. With the games taking place so nearby, this is a great opportunity to see the games.

Fourth Grade will also be traveling to Freeport to observe the games in preparation for next year.
