St. Johnstide Bonfire
Please join us for a St. Johnstide celebration at the field adjacent to Spindlewood Waldorf Kindergarten on Proctor Road in Lincolnville, Maine. The bonfire will be lit at dusk, and we will have some social time with sharing of poetry and music before. You may bring dry Christmas greens on the day of the event to add to the fire pile already in place.
This is the time of year when we are all eager to be outdoors, to soak up the warmth of the sun along with all the plant world, which joyously and visibly responds with the deep greening leaves, many flowers, and after the solstice, with the ripening of fruit. The festival of St. Johnstide celebrates our participation in this process. We gather joyfully around a fire with our full intentions for life and work in community. This is our traditional opportunity to offer the ripening fruits of our lives to the universe with gratitude.
In European Waldorf schools, where the school year extends until the end of June, this is the festival which begins the summer break. The Midcoast Anthroposophic Society Group includes St. Johnstide in its events to round out the cycle of the year for whomever can come, young or old. Everyone is encouraged to work this festival into their family life on whatever scale feels most comfortable, so if you can’t join with us, perhaps you can have a campfire at home with friends.
