P1040203AS A PARENT you are faced with many vital choices and decisions for your family. Of all the decisions you will make, the choice of a school has perhaps the most far-reaching consequences. Ashwood’s enrollment team looks forward to sharing this process with you and talking with you about your child. Below is a step-by-step outline of the process.

Step One: Classroom Visit

After making an initial enquiry, we will mail you an information packet containing details about Waldorf education and Ashwood’s programs. The packet also includes an application form. As a next step, if you are able, we suggest that you make arrangements for a classroom visit by calling the admissions director at 207-236-8021. After the tour, you will have the opportunity to meet with the enrollment team, who will answer any questions you might have. They will also outline the admissions process for you at this time.

Step Two: Application

Fill out the online  application form or use the hard copy found in your information packet. Send it along to us with your non-refundable application fee of $50.

Step Three: Student Visit and Parent/Student Interviews

Early Childhood: Following receipt and review of your application, we will contact you to schedule a time to visit an Early Childhood class with your child. We will also make an appointment for you to meet with the teacher.

Grades 1–8: Following receipt and review of your application, we will contact you to schedule a three-day classroom visit for your child. At this time, we will also make an appointment for you to meet with the teacher. In addition, we will schedule a time for the teacher to meet with your child to gain a basic sense of the child’s physical, developmental, and academic level. This meeting takes approximately 30–45 minutes. For children entering grades 2-8 we will need transcripts from previous schools.

Step Four: Admissions Decision

When making admissions decisions, we take many factors into account:

  • Our school’s suitability for the child’s age, ability, or special educational or emotional needs
  • Whether the acceptance of the applicant is compatible with the needs of the children already in the class
  • Whether we have the resources to meet the child’s needs

In some cases children may be accepted on a trial basis. Sometimes, a new child will need tutoring in certain areas, such as foreign languages or music.

Step Five: Enrollment

The admissions director will contact you with the acceptance decision. Following this, you will receive a packet containing an acceptance letter, enrollment contract, and tuition schedule.

Once you have sent the signed contract and deposit, the business office manager will contact you to set up tuition payments.

The school calendar, Parent Handbook, school directory, medical and field-trip permission forms, and immunization policy are mailed to you before the start of the school year and are also available on request.
